About Maurice Nicoleau

Career highlights past and present

A former graduate student at New York University (NYU), Maurice Nicoleau received a masters of social work degree in May 2020. Prior to receiving his degree, he gained extensive experience in the fields of social services and psychology by working with adolescents and children in clinical and academic environments. Through a client-centered approach focused on understanding, attentiveness, and professional knowledge, he has served youth and families in various capacities for over 15 years. His work has ranged from conducting psychosocial assessments and implementing treatment plans to coordinating initiatives that promote behavioral health and stability. Currently, Maurice Nicoleau serves as a public health advocate at NYC Health + Hospitals and will begin training as a candidate at the National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis in September 2020.

His background encompasses roles at health practices and schools. Most recently, he participated in a MSW high school field-placement. The program involved collaborating with faculty and teams at John Browne High School to assist students with special needs and in at-risk and underserved groups. Among other tasks, he engaged in advocacy for these students, treated those with life challenges, and addressed social issues such as self-esteem and bullying.

Prior to enrolling at NYU, Mr. Nicoleau served as a physician liaison for pediatric, and geriatric specialists at Queens Village Primary Care. He served as the primary physician gatekeeper and frequently discussed adolescent development with young patients’ families. Previously, he was employed at Perkins School in Massachusetts as a direct care counselor.

In his spare time, Mr. Nicoleau enjoys leisure reading, academic writing, singing, percussion, and outdoor activities such as snowboarding and scuba diving.
